Anguilla - General Facts about the Country
Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean, with an area of only 90 sq miles. Its estimated population is 13,600 inhabitants. It is also a member of CARICOM (Caribbean Community). Geographically it is within the hurricane belt, with hurricane season between June and October. The climate is tropical but moderated by trade winds. The principal language (commercially) is English. The country is an internally self-governing British Overseas Territory (Head of State: Queen Elizabeth II of the UK, represented by the Governor). The currency in Anguilla is the East Caribbean Dollar (XCD), although the US Dollar is widely used and accepted. |
