Nevis: Country Profile
Nevis is a small island in the Caribbean, paired with the island of St. Kitts (also known as St. Christopher), and home to approximately 46,000 residents (mostly living on St. Kitts, rather than Nevis). There are only a little over 11,000 people living on Nevis. Historically, St. Kitts & Nevis were a British Colony, and they gained independence from Britain in 1983. The principal language spoken is English, and the capital is Basseterre (St. Kitts). The principal town in Nevis is Charlestown. The legal system in Nevis is the English common law system. The island's principal sources of income are tourism and the offshore services industry. The currency used in Nevis is the East Caribbean Dollar, which is valued at approximately USD 0.37. USD $1.00 = 2.685 XCD. The US Dollar is widely used and accepted in Nevis. Nevis time zone: -4 GMT, which is the same as Eastern Time, but it does not operate with daylight savings. In term of taxes, Nevis is a tax-neutral jurisdiction, especially for trusts, limited partnerships and non-resident exempt companies (commonly known as IBCs). Applicable taxes:
